Assessment

Am I losing hair, or just looking too hard?

Bathroom lighting lies and old photos are worse. This measures the difference between hair that's thinning and hair that isn't — on your own head, in one sitting.

The method

Your own head contains the control group.

Hair on the back and sides is genetically resistant to the hormone driving pattern loss. It doesn't miniaturize. It's the same hair a surgeon relocates in a transplant, and it's why transplants work at all.

So you carry your own baseline around with you. Measure donor caliber, measure the top, and the gap is your answer.

LITTLE OR NO GAP

Not miniaturization

Top measures about the same as donor. Whatever you're seeing, it isn't pattern loss.

A CLEAR GAP

Pattern loss in progress

Top is measurably finer than hair that never thins — usually visible in numbers well before the mirror.

A LARGE GAP

Substantial miniaturization

Worth a dermatologist conversation, and worth bringing numbers to it.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE

The mirror looks the same. The measurement doesn't.

Hair shaft caliber changes months before coverage looks any different. That's the window a scan can see and a photo can't.

SCAN

Sweep the zone with the 50× scanner.

MEASURE

Shaft caliber in microns, calibrated.

TRACK

Watch the number move over months.

Then what?

If you're not losing hair, you stop worrying and you have numbers to prove it. If you are, you're holding a Day 0 measurement — exactly what you need if you start treatment, because the only way to know whether it works is to have measured before you began.

Common questions

How can one scan tell me if I'm balding?

Hair on the back and sides resists thinning for genetic reasons, which makes it a baseline for your own healthy hair. If hair on top measures thinner than donor hair, that gap is miniaturization — which is what pattern loss actually is.

Do I have to wait months?

No. The comparison is between two areas of your head on the same day, not between today and a future scan.

What if I'm not losing hair?

Then top and donor measure about the same and the report says so. Some people just have fine hair and no thinning, which is worth knowing.

Is this a diagnosis?

No. GraftReport measures and reports; a dermatologist diagnoses. Plenty of people bring their report to that appointment.
